Welcome to mainland Canada’s most eastern point and the start of Route 16!
The village of Canso is one of the oldest settlements in Nova Scotia and one of the province’s least tapped resource boasting picturesque shorelines, walking trails, wildlife, fishing and of course where Route 16 begins! Not to mention, Canso is the proud home of the Stanfest Folk Festival, Canso Regatta, Mackerel Fishing Derby, Canso Islands National Historic Park and most importantly the Route 16 Thunder Rally!
Travelling to Canso is just as scenic as the town itself. With so many routes to chose from, you will find it hard to decide which way is best. Depending on where you are coming from, consider getting off the main highway and take a less travelled route as you will be rewarded with many opportunities to do a bit of sightseeing along the way.
